As soon as Anna had heard White Blood Stables was hosting another show she jumped on the chance to visit the beautiful isles again with her darling Affie. Of course the traveling expenses were never cheap, and it had taken a lot to actually persuade her parents to even consider the thought of going back. But now here they were back at the beautiful beach, and once more chaperoned by her loving mother. Their feet sinking into the sand as they walked across the beach waiting for the halter class to begin.
Affie's nostrils drank in the salty air as her ears flicked forward and backwards, almost in smooth rhythm with the waves as they caressed the sand. She was more content this time, anxious as always, but not nervous like she had been their first time at the beach. Anna thought of it as salted caramel, smooth and sweet on the tongue, but tangy to the taste buds, just enough to make you want a little more.
Anna's mom found refuge where a little crowd was beginning to form, spectators for the oncoming show, that's when the butterflies hit her.
Suddenly Anna had to move, and she had to move right away. Her teeth began to chatter, her hands shook as if she was on a coffee buzz and it suddenly became a little hard to focus. Anna stepped to Affies shoulder and began to rub it, feeling the muscle definition as she slowly worked her hands up to Affies withers and back down to the fillies chest. The shoulder rub has been something Anna had done since day one with the filly, so it had sort of developed into a comfort thing for the both of them.
Her nervous pulsed through Affie's skin sending little red flags into the bays mind, the filly swung her head around to check on her little human as if to say "are you okay?", her tail flicked patiently and the two had a quick sweet bonding moment that made Anna's heart glow until Affie's attention was completely snagged by another horse walking by. Anna's heart sank a little as she stepped away from the fillies shoulder. One day your focus will be all on me she thought as she gently pressed her fingers into the mares side and slightly turned her head inward, as she asked Affie yielded her front end and moved away from the pressure with her back end. "Nice!" Anna whispered as she rubbed the mares forehead happily, as long as Anna was focused on Affie the nerves had disappeared for now.
Together they walked now, as they neared the other horses getting ready for the line up Affie whinnied loudly, prancing quickly ahead of Anna as excitement over showered the two year old's innocent features. "No, no, no...." Anna spat as she applied pressure to the lead line and pulled Affie back in towards her. Placing her head on the fillies chest she applied pressure and asked Affie to back up. It took a few seconds for her social butterfly to process the information, but willingly Affie took a few stuttered steps back. It wasn't her best, but she had tried... Anna rubbed the fillies neck before asking her once more to do the same thing. Flicking her tail anxiously Affie repeated her motions, this time she backed up in a few good quick steps like she knew she was suppose to do. "Ah, ada girl." Anna smiled rubbing the mares forehead as the butterflies found her once more, it was going to be hard to wait in this line of competitors with her nerves running 90 to nothing, a filly who only wants to meet everyone and thing...
